The societies maintain their individual areas of expertise and identities, yet share administrative support, a journal and a biannual national congress

The Infectious Diseases Society of Southern Africa (IDSSA) aims to support infectious diseases physicians and allied healthcare workers in the field of adult infectious diseases, providing leadership at a national and regional level. Our objectives are to advance the understanding of infectious diseases, fostering greater collaboration between clinical- and laboratory-based practitioners and to advocate for increased resources for infectious diseases, developing training units and training programmes within southern Africa.

The South African Society for Clinical Microbiology key objectives include the monitoring of antimicrobial resistance patterns in the public and private medicine sector in South Africa including the publication of antibiotic resistance patterns in selected publications. Membership shall consist of microbiologists and pathologists employed solely in public or private laboratories in Southern Africa plus nominated pharmaceutical representatives of co-sponsors.

The Southern African Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases was established at the biennial conference of the South African Paediatric Association on 31st May 2008 at Sun City. A constitution was discussed and adopted after insightful contributions from colleagues. - SASTM

The South African Society of Travel Medicine (SASTM) was formed in 2000 with the purpose of addressing the needs of all those involved in travel medicine and health. The Society welcomes as its members all who are involved in this field, allowing all to have an equal vote in the development of the Society and in the election of the office-bearers.
