Submission of Abstracts

Abstract Submission Deadline: 24 June 2011

The Organising Committee invites submission of abstracts to be considered for oral or poster presentation (please indicate your preference). Authors are requested to follow the instructions clearly.

Abstract Format

Maximum of 300 words in MS Word. Page set up with A4 margins, top, bottom, Font: Arial 10pt. No graphs or diagrams permitted.

Provision has been made for Poster presentations. Note: All visuals shown must have informed consent. Speakers must declare conflict of interest before starting their presentations.

Kindly divide your abstract according to the following headings:

Research Abstract: Introduction, Method, Result & Conclusion
Case Report: Introduction, Case & Discussion
Abstracts not conforming to this format will be returned.

FIDSSA Bursaries

FIDSSA are proud to announce the New Researcher Award. The award will cover accommodation, registration and travel (from within Southern Africa)*, for 5 delegates to the congress and the requirements are:

 

  • Submission and acceptance of an original abstract
  • Registrars, nurses or scientists presenting research on any topic relating to the 6 FIDSSA Societies are eligible for the awards. Consideration will be given to those with limited funding for FIDSSA Congress attendance. Please indicate on your Abstract Application if you wish to be considered.

Note: The judges’ decision will be final.

FIDSSA 4WARD Awards
  • FIDSSA Best Young Researcher (<40 years of age)
    - Oral Presentation: R10 000
    - Poster Presentation: R 5 000

  • FIDSSA Best Rural Presentation (Oral or Poster)
    - Not affiliated to an academic institution: R 5 000

Acceptance

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee who reserves the right to accept and allocate abstracts for either poster or oral presentation. Presenters will be notified by 15 July 2011 if their abstract has been accepted. All presenters of accepted abstracts must be registered as congress delegates. Early registration fee will apply.

Publication

Abstracts will be published in The South African Journal of Epidemiology and Infection.

Oral Presentations

The official language of the conference is English. There will be selected oral presentations.

Poster Presentations

Accepted posters will be displayed in the convention centre throughout the Congress. Posters should at most measure 95cm (width) and approximately 1.5m (height). Full details for preparation of posters will be included in the abstract acceptance letter.
