SASTM - Overview
The South African Society of Travel Medicine is
known by the acronym “SASTM” promotes excellence in the practice of
Travel Medicine. Travel Medicine means the practising of the
prevention and treatment of travel-related diseases, travel-related
conditions and health hazards, and includes the impact of tourism
and migration on health.
Goals of the Society include acting as a local and international
reference body on Travel Medicine, serving as an advisory body on
Travel Medicine to the South African Department of Health,
facilitating local and international collaboration in the field of
Travel Medicine. Additional objectives include to promote,
facilitate and accredit the education of health care professionals
in the practice of Travel Medicine and to prepare technical
guidelines on Travel Medicine. We encourage excellence in
appropriate research and professional publication in Travel
Medicine.
